Introduction
Welcome to SPAN! The purpose of this research study is to learn more about how different factors in pregnancy lead to healthy babies. Specifically, we aim:
- To find out whether factors related to fathers' heart health affect the placenta, fetal growth, and children's birth outcomes.
- To find out what parts of placental and fetal genes are related to the placenta's health, fetal growth, and children's birth outcomes.
- To find out when is the best time to deliver a baby when the mother has gestational diabetes.
We hope that the knowledge gained from this study will help explain the different factors contributing to newborn health, which leads into childhood growth and development, and lifelong health outcomes. The knowledge gained in this study could also lead to changes in the way pregnant women with gestational diabetes are treated.
